The University was established in February 2022.

This was achieved through the conversion of the then Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Oto-ljanikin (AOCOED) and the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED) by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

On the 12th February 2022, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu appointed acting Vice-Chancellor.
